For this class, please create a personal homepage that will house all of your assignments for this class. By the end of the class, you should have a functional log of everything you did in this class, as well as any additional content you might find relevant (for example: a personal bio, links to your other projects, experiments). Create a system of organizing your work – how will you group the projects and exercises? What kind of navigation is necessary for a user to quickly gain what they’ll look for? How does the content influence the design decisions?

We will check this project incrementally. There will be 3 major check ins (In two weeks, at the midterm, and at the end of the semester)
In a 2012 project titled The Last Pictures, artist Trevor Paglen compiled 100 images onto a disc and blasted it into space. The idea was that technological artifacts will outlive mankind. While aliens might never come across this capsule, its existence (and the fact that it went into space) reflect our desire to preserve history and share it with the universe. As a way to introduce yourself to the class, I’d like you to create an abridged time capsule online containing 10 images. Consider what’s important to you, where you spend your time, what inspires you and in general, what tells the story of you, specifically, in this moment. How will your time capsule obviously be from you? What can you add to your time capsule to help communicate this idea?
House your images on a website. It can be single page or multi-page. The caveat is that you’re not allowed to use type in any way. With this challenge, how can you use strong visuals to direct a user and also communicate a story?

By definition, maxims are a short, pithy statement expressing a general truth or rule of conduct. For this project, collect a set of phrases from an existing source. Examples: Email subject lines, news headlines, dates, fortune cookie messages. Create a website that displays these maxims in a compelling way. Consider the content of your maxims. What are they about and where are they coming from? How does the content change based on the hierarchy of your design and the way you’re breaking it up? You should have at least 15 different maxims on your website and your website should guide the user with control and interest.

Unlike print design, digital design evolves and exists in multiple contexts. For this assignment, I’d like you to create a poster generator that creates a variety of different results. You should then create a series of six distinct posters. These will be housed on a unique website.
p5.js, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery
Think about an overarching idea for your generator. What kind of parameters will be in place to define the results? How much variation are you hoping to achieve? How will the generator change, ... with time, with a page refresh, with the mouse movement, with a click, with sound, with your face?
Once you create your generator, create a series of 6 posters from it. Your posters should be generated using the save function discussed in class. All of the posters need to be the same size. You can either do a square aspect ratio (1:1), or a standard poster aspect ratio (2:3). The size will depend on how you crop your posters, but I’d aim for a width of at least 1200 px.
Create a website that houses a gallery of the six posters as well as a link to the generator. All parts of the project should feel consistent with one another.
The gallery must include:
— A way to look at all 6 posters
— A link to the generator
— A project title (please try to come up with something more creative than “Generative Poster Project”)
— A description explaining the concept of your project (a brief description!). What interests you about it, what you were exploring, were there any precedents or research you discovered?
— A favicon
We are navigating uncertain times. In a world where we are more connected than ever, we are asked to practice "social distancing". However, while we may be physically distant, we are beginning to feel socially close. For this final project, let's try to implement "intimacy without proximty," a quote from Donna Haraway's Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin. In your final two weeks, make a micro-site about mutual aid. This can be a resource guide, a place to meditate, a place to distract or entertain, or any (web)site that you feel could be helpful to you and your community in this present time.
HTML, CSS, jQuery
Each week, one student will be assigned a designer, studio, or artist.
If you are the discussion leader, you’ll be asked to present the following:
— 15 minute presentation
— Design the presentation: think about type system, sequence, and flow
— Think of this like a portfolio talk — introduce interesting projects, describing their unique design elements, audience, and style
— How does it relate to you as an artist or designer?
— If other topics are mentioned (i.e museum or event or historical movement that is unfamiliar to you) be sure to have a few slides about this, as well.
— Your presentation should end with 2 discussion questions for the class.
